Six guests, never more.
Small enough to fit around one hut table, to change plans over coffee, and to walk at the pace of the slowest person without anyone noticing.
How we travelGo a little further. Move a little slower. Small-group journeys, thoughtfully planned.
We have walked the Alps with small groups since 2011. A local guide who knows the farmers by name, a route that leaves room for a long lunch, and nights in huts and family houses rather than hotels with lobbies.
Our storyEight journeys for the 2026 to 2027 season, from lakeside mornings to a roped day on the ice.
Every date runs from three guests. Hold a place for seven days while you check your calendar.
Small enough to fit around one hut table, to change plans over coffee, and to walk at the pace of the slowest person without anyone noticing.
How we travelHalf board in huts and family guesthouses, cooked by people whose grandparents ran the same kitchen.
Every guide holds a mountain leader qualification and lives within an hour of the route they lead.
Days are planned for four to six hours of walking, with stops built in. Nobody is racing to a summit.
Three of the guides you might walk with next season. Each leads two or three journeys and knows them in every weather.
Meet all our guidesFitness, weather, packing and what happens if plans change. Anything else, a guide will call you back the same day.
All questionsTell us when you are free and how you like to walk. A guide replies within one working day with two or three journeys that fit.

8journeys, 2026 to 2027 season
The same small groups and local guides, three very different rhythms. Choose by how many hours you want on your feet, not by how far you want to go.
Add two to four quiet nights before or after any journey at one of two houses we know well. No itinerary, no guide, just a good room and somewhere to swim or sweat.
Iseltal, East Tyrol
A 1790s farmhouse rebuilt in larch and lime plaster, twelve minutes from Lienz station. Eight rooms, a library of walking maps and breakfast from the farm across the lane. It pairs naturally with A Cabin Above Lienz.
Lake Bohinj, Julian Alps
The nine-room lake house where The Lakeside Retreat is based. Stay on after the group leaves: the sauna is lit every evening at six, the rowing boats are free and the water is warm enough to swim from late June.
Tell us how many nights and whether they go before or after your journey when you request dates.
We reserve the room with the house directly and confirm it with your journey, usually within one working day.
Extra nights are added to your final balance, due eight weeks before departure. No separate deposit.
Our guides lead the same two or three journeys every season. They know which hut makes the best barley soup, and which ridge clears by noon.
International Mountain Leader or national equivalent, plus a wilderness first aid certificate renewed every two years.
Every guide lives within an hour of the route. Most grew up there; the rest have stayed long enough to be asked to weddings.
Never more than six guests per guide, and two guides for any day on glacier or snow.
Guides are paid a season retainer, not per departure, so nobody is pushed to run a trip in bad weather.
Short pieces by our guides about the parts of a journey that do not fit in an itinerary.
New stories, next season's dates a week before anyone else, and nothing else.
In 2011 Theresa Gasser, a teacher from Lienz, rented her uncle's hay cabin to five walkers from Vienna for a week and cooked for them every night. They came back the next year with their friends. That cabin is still on our list, and Theresa still does the pre-trip calls.
Fifteen seasons later we run eight journeys in Austria, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland with 38 guides and hosts. We have kept the parts that mattered: groups of six, people who live on the route, and a pace that leaves time to look up.
We are a company of eleven, based in a first-floor office on Kreuzgasse in Lienz. We answer the phone ourselves.
First week at the hay cabin above the Isel valley.
Every itinerary redesigned to start at a railway station.
Luka Zupan joins and we begin walking in the Julian Alps.
Guides move to year-round retainers instead of day rates.
Winter snowshoe week added in the Goms valley.
An example: The High Dolomites Traverse at €2,240 per person. We publish this for every journey on request.
Questions about fitness, dates, a private group or an existing booking. The office answers within one working day; guides call back when the question is about the route.
Booking, fitness, weather and getting there. If your question is not here, the office will answer it within a working day.
Written by whichever guide has the most to say that month. New stories, next season's dates a week before they go on sale, and the occasional recipe from a hut kitchen.
Choose a journey and a date, or ask us to help you choose. We confirm availability within one working day and only then ask for a 20% deposit.
Three quick questions. We will suggest the journey that fits best and two others worth a look.
