A club built by players who wanted more court time.

Cirrus started in 1994 with four courts, a portable clubhouse and a waiting list. Thirty-two years later the waiting list is gone and the courts are still full.

The clubhouse terrace above the courts on a clear morning, with the bay on the horizon

Court time first, everything else second.

The founders were six members of the Saltmere harbour league who were tired of booking courts three weeks ahead. They leased an empty field on the bluff, laid four hard courts and wrote one rule on the clubhouse door: anyone can book, members just book earlier.

That rule still holds. Today the club runs eight hard courts, four glass padel courts and twenty-four coaches, but a guest can still walk in, pay by the hour and play the same afternoon.

We are owned by our members, run by a nine-person committee and reinvest every surplus in the courts. The 2025 clubhouse was paid for by twelve years of court fees, not a loan.

Four things we will not change.

Open booking

Guests book by the hour. Members get a longer window and a lower rate, not a locked door.

Honest levels

A coach places you in a group where you can win points and still be stretched.

Small groups

Four adults or six juniors per coach. We add a session before we add a player.

No partner needed

Open play, the ladder and the Friday social exist so nobody stays home for want of a game.

Club rules and policies.

The short version: book what you will use, cancel early if you cannot, and leave the court as you would like to find it. Updated 1 September 2026.

Club rules

Cirrus is a shared space. These rules keep it pleasant for the 1,350 members and the guests who book with us every week.

  • Non-marking court shoes on every court. Running shoes damage the acrylic surface and the padel turf.
  • Arrive five minutes early and leave the court on the hour, so the next booking starts on time.
  • Call your own lines fairly. On a disputed call, replay the point.
  • Guests sign in at the desk and may play up to six times a year on a member's guest pass.
  • Children under twelve are supervised by an adult when not in a coached session.

Booking and cancellation

Members book up to 14 days ahead (7 days on Rally Pass) and may hold two future bookings at a time. Guests book up to 7 days ahead.

Cancelling

Cancel free up to six hours before the start time from your account or by calling the desk. Later cancellations are charged in full unless the court is rebooked.

Weather

If rain stops play for more than 20 minutes of a booking, we refund or move the booking at no charge. Floodlit hours run from 17:00 and add $6 to the court rate.

Lessons and programs

Private lessons follow the same six-hour rule. Missed program sessions are not refunded, but you may attend another group at the same level that week if there is space.

Membership terms

Monthly plans renew on the date you joined and can be cancelled with 30 days notice. Annual plans are billed once, include two months free and run to the end of their term.

  • Freeze your plan for up to two months a year for injury or travel. No paperwork needed.
  • Unused court hours on Club and Family Court roll over for one month. Classes and private lessons do not roll over.
  • Prices are reviewed once a year, each September, with 60 days notice of any change.

Safeguarding

Every coach and volunteer working with juniors holds a current background check and safeguarding training. Junior sessions always have two adults present on court.

Our welfare lead is Theo Okafor. Any concern, however small, can be raised with him directly or with the front desk, in confidence.

Privacy

We keep the details you give us (name, contact details, membership and booking history) to run your bookings and membership. We never sell them and we only email you about club news if you ask us to.

Booking records are kept for two years, membership records for six years after you leave, as our accounts require. Ask the desk for a copy of your data or to delete it at any time.
